Musical Poster explores the relationship between graphic composition and sound. Visual elements become parameters for a generative musical system, allowing changes in the poster to directly influence the resulting composition. Rather than translating music into visuals, the project reverses the relationship: visual behaviours send data to Ableton Live, where they shape the sound in real time. The abstract geometry becomes an instrument, turning movement, proximity and spatial relationships into musical events.

Behaviour 01

Distance becomes volume: as two master circles approach each other, the resulting sound progressively decreases in intensity.

Behaviour 02

Master circles are assigned individual notes in Ableton Live. Their proximity triggers the corresponding notes, transforming spatial interaction into melody.

Behaviour 03

As a circle travels along a geometric path, each primitive triggers a note. Resampling the shape changes the number and density of primitives, directly altering the resulting sequence. A speed control determines how quickly the circle moves through the path, allowing the same geometry to produce slower or faster phrases.

Behaviour 04

Once the circles have completed their paths, their combined state triggers a unison in Ableton Live, bringing the different musical elements together.

Closing note

This experiment emerged from a desire to construct a form of productive disorder — a system where spatial instability could generate musical structure. Instead of translating sound into image, the logic was reversed: visual relationships became compositional triggers, allowing geometry to shape rhythm and harmony. The project suggests a possible expansion toward a spatial installation in which bodies themselves act as moving nodes. Through proximity and intersection, participants could collectively generate a living composition.
